Nollywood star Mo Bimpe has officially begun what she describes as the biggest journey of her career, a major film project centred on the historic Ekiti Parapo/Kiriji War, the longest war in West African history.
The actress took to Instagram with an emotional message, expressing gratitude to her husband Lateef Adedimeji and the Ekiti State Governor for making the dream possible.
In her lengthy post, Mo Bimpe revealed that she had “held so many emotions” in her heart because the project is deeply personal; a story about her roots, her family, and her home state.
She explained that she was overwhelmed when the call came to bring this monumental story to life.
She wrote:
“This moment is bigger than me… When we received the call to shoot this project, I was completely overwhelmed, not just because it’s work, but because it is my story – the story of my state… It is the longest war in West African history (the Kiriji War).”
Mo Bimpe shared that her emotional connection to the story runs deep, noting that her father even wrote a book on the war.
“Little did I know that the same girl who read those pages would one day be producing this film. God is truly great”, she added.
The actress revealed that the journey has spanned 11 months, involving meetings with the Ekiti State Governor, intense research, script conferences, story development, long nights of planning, location scouting, set construction and months of heavy pre-production.
“The scale, the budget, the requirements… everything looked like a mountain,” she said, adding that God kept paving the way.
Mo Bimpe publicly thanked the Ekiti State Governor for placing such a major cultural project in her hands.
“Thank you for believing in me, for trusting us with this big vision, and for your massive support”, she wrote.
She also showered her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, with heartfelt appreciation, calling him her backbone and creative partner.
“Thank you for giving me wings, for sharing this vision with me, & for standing with me every step of the way… I’m blessed to be on this journey with you as a co-producer & my muse.”
Earlier, Lateef announced that the Ekiti State Government had thrown full support behind the film, which will chronicle the heroic resistance of the Ekiti people.
He expressed pride in being part of a “significant cultural revolution,” promising to continue telling authentic Nigerian stories.
The film will be produced through a collaboration between Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy and AL Notions Film Company (owned by Lateef and Mo Bimpe).
According to the state’s Commissioner, the project will be fully funded by the private sector but creatively led by AL Notions, known for the acclaimed historical film Lisabi: The Uprising.
Mo Bimpe ended her announcement by thanking her director, Kayode Kasum, and the entire cast and crew for their commitment as Day 1 of principal photography officially begins.
“This journey will be long, but it will be worth every second”, she wrote.
