Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has stirred fresh conversation online after sharing a dating experience that left her questioning the level of effort some men put into talking stages.
According to her, she had gone silent with a man she had been chatting with in the UK, and he later reached out to ask why. She explained that she had just survived a minor car accident that left two of her tyres damaged.
“Sorry I had a minor accident and I need to get two new tyres for my car”, she told him.
But instead of showing concern or offering support, the man simply replied, “sorry about that babe, hope you were not hurt,” and ended the conversation with a casual “ok.”
Blessing said his response shocked her. She criticised him for showing no initiative, especially as someone supposedly trying to build a relationship with her. She expected him to at least ask, “How much is the tyre, let me buy it for you,” even though she was fully able to handle it herself. Instead, he told her, “oh sorry just get it sorted out.” She went on to fix the tyres with her own money.
Hours later, he returned with a message: “sorry I’ve been in a very long meeting… I hope you’ve gotten your tyres fixed,” to which she replied, “of course I got two brand new tyres,” and ended the conversation entirely.
To make her point clearer, the actress compared the situation with another man, a friend she described as a “perfect gentleman” in Abuja. When she informed him about a gig in the city, he immediately told her, “get a hotel and they can come get you the next day.” When she offered to make the arrangements herself, he insisted, “no I got this.” She noted that his gesture wasn’t an attempt to impress her, but simply the behaviour of a thoughtful and responsible man.
Blessing stressed that while she is independent and not looking for a man to pay for everything, she still expects care, attention, and initiative.
“It’s not about needing someone to pay for everything,” she said. “It’s about showing that you are willing to step up when it matters.”
The actress concluded that if a man cannot demonstrate that he is capable of taking care of her in small ways, she has no interest in pursuing a relationship with him. For now, she says she is single and “testing the waters” with multiple talking stages ongoing.
