Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has strongly denied claims that he received ₦50 billion from the Nigerian government in exchange for abandoning the Yoruba Nation struggle.
The allegation was made by controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, alias Portable, who in a viral video accused both Igboho and IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu of being offered huge financial incentives to end their activism. According to Portable:
“Nnamdi Kanu no collect, na only liberation him want for him people… but Igboho collect that money and keep quiet.”
The claim quickly ignited conversations online, forcing Igboho to respond.
In a video call that surfaced online, the activist dismissed the allegation as baseless, stressing that the government has never given him a dime.
“I didn’t collect any ₦50 billion from the government. The only reason bandits are feeling powerful is because they have government backing. I’ve been wanted since 2021, and even the president, who is Yoruba, didn’t deem it fit to clear my case”, Igboho said.
He clarified that although he has been less vocal in recent months, it is not because he abandoned the Yoruba Nation cause. According to him, his silence is a strategic decision tied to his unresolved legal and political pressures.
Portable later made a U-turn, claiming the allegation did not originate from him, but from bloggers.
The drama has sparked mixed reactions across social media. Some Nigerians questioned the credibility of activist movements, while others blasted Portable for making accusations without evidence.
Sunday Igboho rose to prominence in 2021 after leading multiple Yoruba Nation rallies across the Southwest. His Ibadan home was later raided by security operatives, making him one of the most controversial figures in regional self-determination movements.
