Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has broken his silence after facing heavy backlash for telling a fan to leave his show for allegedly sleeping during his performance.
The incident dominated social media conversations, with many accusing him of disrespecting fans. But in a long, emotional message posted and later deleted from his Instagram story, the singer poured out his heart, clarifying what really happened and offering a sincere apology.
According to Burna Boy, his comment was misunderstood:
“Btw, I was joking around with my band about something else. Not necessarily in this situation, and you have spun it as usual, saying ‘Burna Boy doesn’t love his fans.’ If you hate me so much, either kill me or leave me alone.”
The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker explained that he has been “fighting his own battles” quietly and never comes to social media to seek pity or validation.
“I’m fighting my own battles, and I never come out here to look for pity or help. I love those who love me and respect those who respect me. Free Sudan, Free Congo, Free Nigeria.”
Burna Boy did not shy away from apologizing:
“I sincerely apologise. I’m not always right, but I feel right about this. Anyway, I’m just human, so fck me.”
He, however, expressed deep frustration that the positive things he does rarely get acknowledged.
“They never post any of the good I do in this world, but they go wild and viral when they feel I’ve finally fcked up. I’ve seen people who never even acknowledged my existence before now posting how ‘this is not cool’ or writing thinking pieces on me. Astagfirullah.”
The singer sarcastically added:
“Everybody on the internet is perfect and holy except Burna Boy.”
In a follow-up clarification, Burna Boy said he is already aware of the “agenda” against him:
“I understand the agenda against me and I came to terms with it a long time ago so my skin is bulletproof at this point.”
He also compared the concert situation to real-life scenarios where disruptive behaviour is unacceptable:
“If you make the pilot uncomfortable in a plane you bought a ticket for, you will be deboarded… You pay school fees but you will be kicked out of class if you make it uncomfortable for the teacher to do his job.”
According to him, people who attend his shows often include individuals with emotional stories or health struggles, yet they stay fully present:
“My shows have people who have beaten cancer or overcame something very serious etc., and none of them have ever slept lol.”
He emphasized the level of dedication he puts into every performance:
“I leave my soul on every stage I get on even if it’s only 10 people in attendance.”
And in a final fiery line, he stated:
“I will gladly be cancelled if we are now in a world where you can treat me like a stripper, slap my ass and tell me to keep dancing cuz you threw $100 at me.”
Despite his explanation and apology, reactions remain divided as some fans say they understand his frustration, while others insist he should handle situations with more calm. Still, the emotional honesty of his posts has earned him sympathy from many who feel the star is under immense pressure.
For now, Burna Boy has made his stance clear: he loves his fans, he respects those who respect him, but he will not accept being misunderstood without defending himself.
