Did I Beg Y'all to Be My Fans? — Burna Boy Slams Critics After Kicking Couple Out of Denver Show

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has stirred fresh controversy after reacting to the heavy backlash he received for kicking out a couple from his concert in Denver, USA, for allegedly sleeping during his performance.

The incident resurfaced online this week after the woman involved claimed the experience affected her emotionally, leading to renewed criticism of the singer’s treatment of fans.

But Burna Boy appeared unbothered as he addressed the matter in a recent livestream, insisting he owes no one an apology and does not beg anyone to be his fan.

In his words:

“Did I tell you all to be my fans? I am only looking for fans who have money this period. Ara kan gaza.”

His statement triggered immediate outrage across social media, with many accusing him of arrogance and dismissiveness, while others threatened to “cancel” him.

Burna Boy’s relationship with fans has long been a subject of debate. In the past, he made headlines after kicking a male fan who ran on stage to hug him during a performance. The singer also ordered another fan to leave his concert for standing still and not dancing while he was performing.

On both occasions, Burna Boy offered no apology, a pattern critics say reinforces his reputation for being “unapproachable” despite his global success.

His latest statement has now intensified conversations about how he views his fanbase, especially those who have contributed to his rise as one of Africa’s biggest music exports.
