D’banj Breaks Silence In New Interview Show — Don Jazzy Was 100% Behind Mo’Hits Split

Nigerian music icon D’banj has opened up once again about the real reason behind the infamous Mo’Hits breakup, revealing that it was Don Jazzy, not him who initiated the split.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, the Koko Master stated plainly that Don Jazzy was “100 per cent responsible” for the label’s dissolution in 2012, contrary to several assumptions circulating over the years.

“If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently regarding my relationship with Don Jazzy, especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. It came from Don Jazzy 100 per cent”, D’banj said.

He added that despite the split being unexpected, there was no bad blood between them.

“Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released… Even though he had his opinion, I knew we needed to cement that global movement. And I’m glad that God still did it for us with Oliver Twist, which was the last record we released together.”

D’banj made it clear that he has no regrets, describing their separation as destined and necessary for their individual journeys. He also noted that despite their success apart, he still misses creating music with Don Jazzy.

Mo’Hits, founded in 2004 remains one of Nigeria’s most successful record labels, producing classic hits and propelling acts like Wande Coal, Dr SID, D’Prince, and K-Switch into the mainstream. The label’s abrupt breakup in 2012 shocked fans and reshaped Nigeria’s Afro-pop landscape.

The interview has sparked massive reactions across social media, with many fans praising both entertainers for handling their separation with maturity.

@official_thickyana said, “This Don Jazzy never get any bad reputation on SM. He’s such a good man. God bless him.” @thesaviour_oftheparty stated, “That’s why he progressed even more… Your good deeds will always open more doors for you.” @mriyke1 commented, “God please, how do I get the type of wisdom and resilience D’banj possesses?” @officialtedi_wealth said, “Don Jazzy’s kind of heart is rare.”

The revelations from D’banj add new layers to the long-standing conversation about Mo’Hits, its legacy, and the personal sacrifices behind some of Nigeria’s biggest music milestones.
