Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has stirred fresh controversy after ordering a couple out of his concert in Denver, United States, for allegedly sleeping during his live performance.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, has since gone viral after footage from the concert surfaced online showing the moment Burna Boy stopped the music to confront the couple.
In the clip, the “City Boys” crooner, clearly irritated, paused his performance and called out a male fan sitting in the front row with his girlfriend.
“When I stand up here [on stage] and see you over there with your girl sleeping in the front of me, it pisses me the fk up,” Burna Boy said angrily. “So, please, take her the fk home… Walahi I’m not performing another song till you go home.”
The crowd erupted in shock as Burna Boy stood his ground, insisting he would not continue until the couple left. Despite initial hesitation especially from the lady, the pair eventually walked out after the audience began chanting for them to leave.
Once they exited, Burna Boy resumed his performance.
The act has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many criticizing the singer for embarrassing paying fans.
Instagram blogger @mazitundeednut wrote, “Make I no lie, omo, I go collect my refund oo! Type shiii.”
Another user, @temmylagos, commented, “A great opportunity to make some money off him by suing his a$$.” @_thatjudith2 added, “Why them no go sleep when show boring? Can’t be when my own OBO is performing.”
@jumpman_alpacino wrote, “This is a good lawsuit for her.” While @mrdanny_ quipped, “Untop my own money? I no dey go anywhere.”
This isn’t the first time the self-acclaimed African Giant has made headlines for ejecting fans mid-performance.
In a similar incident, Burna Boy once kicked a starstruck fan off the stage after he ran up to hug him. He also reportedly asked another fan to leave for not dancing during his set at a previous concert.
The Denver incident has now reignited debate about Burna Boy’s attitude towards fans; with some defending his passion for energetic crowds, while others accuse him of arrogance.
