The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt after a black 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 was stolen at gunpoint in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025, on Akin-Olugbade Street, Victoria Island.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 12:00 a.m., when four armed men intercepted the vehicle, forced the driver out at gunpoint, and sped off towards the Ozumba Mbadiwe axis.
The luxury SUV, bearing registration number WTO 21 AM and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): 4JGFB4FB8SB274117, was said to have been parked with the driver inside before the robbers struck.
“They fired a warning shot into the air to scare away people nearby. Everything happened in less than five minutes,” an eyewitness recounted, describing the experience as “terrifying.”
The driver, who reportedly resisted at first, sustained minor injuries but survived the ordeal.
Confirming the development, a Senior Police Officer attached to the Victoria Island Division stated that the command had activated joint patrol and intelligence operations across key exit points in Lagos.
“The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation. Anti-robbery, surveillance, and intelligence units are working round the clock. All exit routes from Victoria Island are under close monitoring”, the officer stated.
The stolen Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 is described as black metallic, with factory-tinted windows, brown leather interior, AMG alloy wheels, LED headlamps, and a distinctive chrome front grille.
Police have urged car dealers, mechanics, and members of the public to remain alert and immediately report any vehicle matching the description to the nearest police station or through the emergency hotlines 112 and 767.
The robbery has reignited concerns over the rising cases of vehicle theft and armed attacks in upscale parts of Lagos, especially at night. Residents and business owners in Victoria Island have called for increased night patrols, better street lighting, and stronger collaboration between estate guards and security agencies.
As of press time, investigations were ongoing, with the Lagos State Police Command assuring the public that efforts are underway to recover the stolen vehicle and bring the suspects to justice.
