Guinness World Record-holding chef Hilda Baci has pledged ₦2 million to support organisations working with survivors of sexual abuse and to advance the ongoing fight for justice in the case of 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje, who died in 2018 after enduring years of alleged sexual abuse by her guardians.
In a heartfelt post shared via Instagram, Baci described Ochanya as “a 13-year-old girl who should have been safe, loved, and protected but was instead failed by the very people meant to guard her.”
“As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers and are still here today, trying to find their way back to wholeness”, she wrote.
The celebrity chef emphasised that honoring Ochanya’s memory requires more than online sympathy or hashtags. She called for “funding, accountability, and community action” to ensure that survivors of abuse receive the care, justice, and support they deserve.
Baci announced that the ₦2 million donation will be split between two trusted NGOs focused on supporting rape and abuse survivors, urging her followers to help nominate credible organisations.
“To support that cause, I’m pledging ₦2,000,000 to organisations working with rape and sexual abuse survivors. I’d love for you to help me choose two trusted NGOs to receive this donation. Drop your nominations in the comments or tag them below so my team and I can review and reach out directly”, she said.
She further encouraged contributions to the ongoing GoFundMe campaign aiding Ochanya’s legal process, reminding followers that advocacy can also come in non-financial forms.
“Every contribution helps move the legal process forward and strengthens the fight for justice. And if you can’t give financially, that’s okay, you can still lend your voice”, she added.
Concluding her post, Hilda underscored that true remembrance means “doing more than posting hashtags.”
“It means showing up for those who are still here, making sure no one ever feels alone in their pain again”, she said.
Her initiative has since earned widespread praise across social media, with fans and activists applauding her transparency, empathy, and practical response amid renewed conversations around the #JusticeForOchanya movement.
