Nigerian rapper, Erigga, has expressed concern over the ongoing beef between hip-hop stars Blaqbonez and Odumodublvck, saying the feud is unhealthy for the Nigerian hip-hop community.
Speaking during an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the Paper Boi hitmaker said the tension has made things awkward within the industry and is pushing other artists into uncomfortable corners.
“Nigerian fans like it when rappers fight. The ongoing beef between Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez is bad for the culture because it enables people who don’t love our culture to bring in their crazy opinions”, Erigga stated.
He stressed that while beef may generate attention, it rarely builds anything positive for the genre:
“Beef isn’t really good for the music business, especially for hip-hop. It brings traction but it doesn’t help the culture. Blaqbonez and Odumodublvck are beefing — they’re both my close colleagues, so the room now is a bit tensed.”
Erigga also took a swipe at fans who seem more entertained by conflict than actual musical achievements.
“People are hyping their beef not because they love hip-hop but because they love to see artists fight. When last did you see them celebrating hip-hop achievements? They only come around when the culture is heated. This their fight is beyond rap beef.”
While acknowledging that lyrical battles are part of the genre’s roots, Erigga warned that unchecked rivalry does more harm than good in the long run.
