Award-winning Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement was made in an official statement released by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as part of efforts to revitalise and modernise the state’s sports sector.
According to the statement, Davido’s appointment is aimed at mobilising funds and partnerships to enhance sports infrastructure and create new opportunities for young talents across Osun State.
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the development and disclosed that the singer accepted the role with excitement and a strong commitment to contribute to sports growth in the state.
“The ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi stated. “We are also finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports development and policy implementation.”
He explained that the Sports Trust Fund, now chaired by Davido, is designed to attract investments and donations from private individuals, sports enthusiasts, and philanthropists both within and outside the state.
“Davido’s involvement is expected to attract substantial funds that will significantly impact the growth of sports in Osun”, Adewusi added.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is also Davido’s uncle reaffirmed his administration’s vision to make sports a major pillar of youth development, employment, and community engagement in the state.
The appointment has since generated excitement among fans and residents, with many expressing optimism that Davido’s influence and global connections will bring a new wave of progress to the Osun sports scene.
