Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has expressed frustration over the rising culture of begging on social media platforms.
In a recent post, the entertainer lamented that social media has turned into a “begging site,” with many users flooding the comment sections of celebrities with unsolicited requests for money.
“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore,” he wrote. “It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data.”
Yhemolee said he finds it annoying when people drop their account numbers under his pictures, noting that some individuals have turned begging into a full-time profession.
“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers,” he said. “My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture.”
The singer’s outburst has sparked conversations online, as many users echoed his sentiments about the shift in social media culture, from genuine interaction to endless financial pleas.
