Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has opened up about why some of his colleagues in the rap industry appear envious of his success.

The “Declan Rice” crooner, who has gained massive traction both locally and internationally, said the ongoing debate that he “isn’t lyrically gifted” is simply born out of envy.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Toronto Ada’s Room podcast, Odumodublvck explained that his ability to blend rap with catchy hooks and hit songs has made him a target for criticism from fellow rappers who believe they are better.

“In Nigeria, they say that my rap is not good, but I’m the most featured rapper by international artists,” he said. “I think it’s a thing of envy because I sing my hooks, my songs are hits, and I get more bookings than them.”

Odumodublvck noted that while many rappers focus on being “technically better,” he focuses on connecting with fans and delivering results, which, according to him, speaks louder than lyrical debates.

He continued,

“The envy is deep, especially when they think they are better. But we pay no mind to that. We just continue pushing for those that believe — let them continue to tune in. It’s very unfortunate for the people on the other side because this thing is not going to stop soon.”

He rounded off by throwing a subtle challenge to his critics, urging them to let numbers and bookings do the talking:

“If you think you’re better, sell more records and shows. That’s the real scorecard.”

The Abuja-born artist has carved his own lane with a unique fusion of street energy, storytelling, and pop appeal; something that resonates with Gen Z audiences and international collaborators alike.
