Nigerian rapper and YBNL boss Olamide has revealed that the track “99” from his latest album, “Olamidé” was originally a song by hit producer and singer Young Jonn.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Olamide shared that Young Jonn had sent him the track, and after listening to it, he advised him to feature Davido or Chris Brown.

But when he later checked in to ask about its release, Young Jonn said he wasn’t ready to drop the song.

Seeing an opportunity, Olamide asked for the green light to use the track on his own project. Young Jonn agreed, and the song found a home on his self-titled album “Olamidé” having Seyi Vibez, Asake, Young Jonn himself, and Daecolm.

Since that revelation, fans have been talking: @sil.iwon said, “Olamide got taste for good music.” While @enio2222222 pointed out rumors: “I think some people said Olamide and Davido get beef.”

Another Instagram user, @only1els3 added: “Davido for good for that song aje… it would have gone global mehn but they still did god sha… told you guys Olamide and Davido are cool 😂 …”

This unexpected backstory behind “99” not only highlights the deep respect between artists behind the scenes, but also shows how collaborations in Afrobeats often evolve in the most organic and unpredictable ways.
