Jollof Drama: Jumoke Blasts Hilda’s Haters
Nollywood actress Jumoke Odetola has taken to Instagram to express her frustration over the negative remarks trailing Hilda Baci’s record-breaking attempt at cooking the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice.
Since the culinary feat, a viral phrase “the Jollof rice no sweet” has been making rounds online, sparking mixed reactions.
While many Nigerians have celebrated the chef’s achievement, some have criticized the taste of the meal served during the challenge.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, Odetola did not hide her anger, writing:
“Hilda Bassey did what many of us won’t even dream of. And instead of celebrating that, people are nitpicking details of a meal. She said she was going to embark on cooking in the biggest pot of Jollof, not cook the best-tasting Jollof you’ve ever eaten.”
She further added that those fixated on taste should “go eat at restaurants”, reminding critics that Baci already owns a restaurant where people can enjoy her dishes.
The actress, visibly upset, captioned her post with multiple angry emojis, stating:
“I have just been angry since yesterday and if I don’t express my thoughts, I won’t be fine.”
Her comments have since sparked debates online, with some agreeing that Nigerians should focus on the record-breaking achievement rather than taste, while others argue that food, no matter the size, should still taste good.
With celebrities like Odetola speaking up, the conversation around Hilda Baci’s Jollof fest continues to highlight the tension between celebrating national achievements and the culture of online criticism.
