Kiing Lu’s Inspiring Story: From Homeless With Less Than ₦100k to Music Industry Success
Executive producer, A&R, and industry organizer Kiing Lu (Militant) has shared an emotional story about his tough beginnings and how he turned pain into power, inspiring countless creatives in the process.
It all started when financial expert and founder of The Money Africa, Olúwatósìn Olaseinde, posted a thought-provoking question on X (Twitter): “What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done to get ahead?”
In response, Kiing Lu opened up about his journey, revealing how he resigned from Universal Music Group on September 30th, 2019, with less than ₦100,000 in his account. At that point, he was homeless and often slept at the Universal office or with friends.
But rather than giving up, he took a leap of faith and launched Speed Plug Promotions, a label servicing company, with absolutely nothing. His first big break came when he connected with WurlD and Sarz to promote their collaborative project ILGWT. The project’s success opened doors, and soon other artists and labels began trusting him with their campaigns.
Fast forward to today, Kiing Lu’s portfolio boasts collaborations with Davido, Tems, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Adekunle Gold, Lojay, Bellashmurda, Victony, Odumodublvck, and more. He has also worked with powerhouse labels such as Def Jam, UMG, UnitedMasters, Empire, Island Records, Native Records, and several local imprints.
Sharing his testimony, he wrote:
“That same boy that left UMG with less than 100k and was homeless, now lives in a 4-bedroom duplex, owns a recording studio, is married with 2 beautiful kids, and runs two companies. All I did was BELIEVE in myself and trust God to guide my steps. God blessed the MILITANT.”
His story has since sparked massive conversations online, with fans and fellow industry players praising his resilience and courage. Many describe it as a reminder that belief, consistency, and divine grace can turn even the darkest moments into testimonies.
