AFCON 23: How your favourite celebs reacted to Super Eagle’s victory over South Africa

Following the recent football match between Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, Nigerian celebrities have reacted in their distinctive manner.

On Wednesday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4- 2 after a penalty shootout to qualify for the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Stanley Nwabali was the hero of the night as he saved two penalty kicks.

Actress Mercy Aigbe and her movie producer husband Kazim Adeoti engaged in a dance battle to celebrate Nigeria’s victory against South Africa.

Mercy posted a video of the couple dancing on Instagram on Wednesday, dancing and jubilating after Super Eagles won the match.

In the video, the husband and wife could be seen screaming and jumping around their sitting room with glee as they danced to express their happiness.

“Oseeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Up Super Eagles! Congratulations Nigeria Finals, here we come,” she captioned the video.

On his part, singer Timaya issued out a quick public service announcement to Nigerians who are in South Africa.

Taking to Twitter, he tweeted,

“If you are a Nigerian and in SA tonight, please just day your day,” hinting at the fact that Nigerians in South Africa should remain indoors to escape any form of harm coming their way.

Actor Deyemi Okanlawon asked his friend and lead pastor of The Fountain of Life Church Jimmy Odukoya to pray for his forthcoming film All’s Fair in Love.

Recall that Odukoya had said a prayer for Super Eagle in a video shared prior the AFCON clash.

“My dear AFCON Pastor-bestie-brother-friend-supporter… I just say make I remind you say I dey wait make you do prayer plus influencer video,” Deyemi wrote.

Kizz Daniel on his part pledged to fly a lucky fan of his to the UK following the victory over South Africa.

“Vado if Super Eagles wins today, take me to your next show, Ovo Arena”, he pleaded.

Kizz Daniel replied, “This I promise you. X is my witness”

In a follow-up post he tweeted, “Oga where you dey, con go do your Visa o. UK yah

The fan replied, “I dey Nigeria vadooo I am in your DM, the great Vado”.

Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo reacting to the victory gave a shoutout to Super Eagle’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali on her Instagram account.

Sharing a photo of the goalie, she wrote: The joy in my heart. God bless you weneh.”

Mercy’s husband Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa also shared a video of his wife rejoicing after the win.

“@mercychinwo preparing for the finals @ng_supereagles we have an extra player ohhh,” he captioned the video.

Also, BBNaija Ike Onyema is doing trade by barter with South Africans.

The reality star, took to X to appeal to South Africans following their loss at the 2023 AFCON, to give Nigerians their fast-rising singer, Tyla, who beat Davido, Ayra Starr, and others to win a Grammy Award. In exchange for her, Nigerians would give them Pere Egbi and can add Phyna as a bonus.

This had pushed them to the finals in the AFCON football match, which has been ongoing since January. There has been a lot of reaction to this, as netizens have taken to express their differing views on the match.

In another develpment, Progressive Governors’ Forum, comprising state governors in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has donated the sum of N200 million to the Super Eagles.

Minister of sports development John Enoh announced the donation on Wednesday.

Enoh confirmed that the N200 million has already been redeemed to the players by the forum.

“I want to thank the Progressive Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Uzodimma of Imo for galvanising and redeeming the sum of N200 million to the Super Eagles.

Nigeria will play in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
