Ahmed Musa condemns Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau

Ahmed Musa, a Nigeria international, has condemned the attacks carried out by gunmen on Christmas Eve in Plateau State.

According to the authorities, 15 settlements in the state’s Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas were targeted.

Okoro Alawari, the commissioner of police, stated on Tuesday that 96 people were killed and 221 houses and eight cars were set on fire during the attacks.

This is below the figure of over 100 victims given by international media.

A statement signed by the Plateau Police Command’s spokesman Alfred Alabo said: “Findings from the assessment of the ugly incidents in Bokkos LGA revealed that the total number of villages attacked is 12; 221 houses were set ablaze, 27 motorcycles were burnt, eight motor vehicles were burnt down and over 79 persons were killed while 17 deaths were recorded in Barkin-ladi LGA.

“Investigation and monitoring of the incidents are still on. Further development will be communicated soon.”

Reacting on Tuesday via social media to the attacks, Musa called on Nigerians to “stand together against hate and violence”.

“I am standing against the violence in Plateau State. It’s heartbreaking to witness the recent violence in Plateau State. My thoughts are with those affected,” the former Leicester City star wrote.

“We need to stand together against hate and violence. Let love and understanding prevail. Together, we can make a difference. Let us show love to one another.”
