Fire guts Ooni of Ife’s palace courtyard

On Friday night, a block apartment within the courtyard of the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, was razed.

According to reports, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. and was caused by a power surge that exploded through the apartment’s electrical appliances.

According to videos going viral, the building had been razed and virtually all of its contents had been destroyed.

The Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Comrade Moses Olafare confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

Olafare said that the inferno however did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises, as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service & Palace Emergency Control Unit.

He added that the incident did not record casualties, injuries, or even the loss of any cultural item.
