Actress-turned-politician Funke Akindele has explained why she hasn’t given up on her political aspirations despite criticism.

During the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ongoing grassroots engagement with residents in Eleko community, Ibeju-Lekki axis of the state, Funke, who is Olajide Adediran’s aka Jandor’s running mate for governor in Lagos, revealed this.

In order to protect Lagos from “bad governance,” the 45-year-old said she entered the governorship race.

She said: “Nobody is happy with what is happening in Lagos State at the moment. If the people fail to find solutions to it, things will soon go very bad,” she said.

“This was why I joined the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran aka Jandor, so that we can repair the state.”

Speaking on why she ignored those making negative comments about her, she said: “We want to secure the future of our children and it starts now. They said so many things, when I wanted to come out, but I did not answer them because they know that the state will be better if we get into office.”

This is coming weeks after the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu has urged the supporters of the party to “act like they do not remember” the name of actress and Lagos deputy governor-hopeful.

Tinubu told party members at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Lagos APC secretariat on Acme Road in Ogba that mentioning the actress’s name is “a big insult”.
