The police in Lagos have refuted claims that they detained actress Eniola Badmus in connection with the death of Davido’s son Ifeanyi Adeleke.

On Monday, October 31, Ifeanyi drowned, eleven days after celebrating his third birthday.

Early on Saturday morning, speculation about Eniola’s arrest began. According to a number of blogs, the actress called Ifeanyi’s nanny on the phone to divert her attention from the fact that the boy had left the room for the pool.

Eniola wasn’t detained, though, according to police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who spoke to BBC Pidgin.

“The story is false, nothing like that happened,” Hundeyin said.

Eniola Badmus was one of the first celebrities that announced the death of Ifeanyi in a cryptic message.

Moments after her post, Nigerians stormed the comment section, accusing her of using the boy’s death as a means of gaining more popularity. Others opined that it was insensitive to announce the death of a child before confirmation from the parents.

With things spiralling out of control, Eniola was forced to delete the post on Instagram and Facebook.

The 38-year-old also came under fire on Thursday after posting now-deleted videos about the death of Ifeanyi on her YouTube channel.
