Gospel singer Laolu Gbenjo has issued a strong and emotional warning against those he believes are trying to stir controversy and wickedness around the death of fellow minister Toluwanisings. Speaking at the Night of Tributes held in honour of the late singer in Ibadan, Gbenjo pleaded with everyone present to stop any form of manipulation and let the family mourn in peace.

Gbenjo did not mince words as he addressed the gathering.

“And I want to beg you, in the name of God, I want to beg every one of us sitting here, on this ground, that we- wickedness that we are trying to do must stop,” he said.

He described Toluwanisings as a devoted servant of God and a man of pure character, adding that “He served the Lord with all his heart” and “He was a pure man.” He further urged the crowd to reject any attempts to complicate the situation, declaring:

“Whoever is putting that thing together, wickedness must stop,” and leading them to repeat “No more wickedness.”

The singer also cautioned against turning the late minister’s story into something resembling the prolonged public drama that followed the death of Afrobeats artiste Mohbad in 2023.

“Don’t turn Toluwanisings to Mohbad,” Gbenjo warned, while expressing love for the deceased with the words “Toluwani, we love you.”

Toluwanisings, whose full name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, passed away in the early hours of October 14, 2026. The popular gospel singer and minister with Toluwani Gospel Music Ministry was known for his energetic Yoruba praise performances and songs that encouraged audience participation. His family confirmed the news and asked for prayers for his wife and children. Reports indicate he had performed at a worship programme the previous night before collapsing at home.

The Night of Tributes at Jogor Centre brought together family, colleagues, and fans dressed in white to celebrate his life and ministry. While emotions ran high, Gbenjo’s call for restraint came amid reported family disagreements over burial arrangements and growing online speculation about the circumstances of the death.
