Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has once again stirred public debate by firmly declaring that polygamy is not a sin. In posts shared on his X account on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the controversial star backed a United States pastor who recently introduced a second wife to his congregation and insisted the practice aligns with scripture.
Edochie quoted a video related to Pastor Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, who announced his second marriage to Shakayla Ford on October 25. Ford’s first wife, Lydia, introduced the new wife during a church service, describing their arrangement as a polygynous marriage. Ford himself stated that the teaching of one man and one wife only is unbiblical.
Responding directly, Edochie wrote:
“POLYGAMY IS NOT A SIN. Even in the bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more. Today, many men are destined to have many wives but because they don’t know who they are and scared of what society will say they end up having just one and life doesn’t seem to be working for them.”
In a follow-up post he added:
“I totally agree. It is the will of God.”
The comments quickly drew mixed reactions online. Supporters praised Edochie for speaking his truth and referencing biblical figures who practised polygamy. Critics pushed back, arguing that modern Christian teaching emphasises monogamy and that the actor’s stance continues to reopen old wounds from his personal life.
Edochie has long been open about his own polygamous marriage. In 2022 he publicly announced actress Judy Austin as his second wife while still married to first wife May Edochie, a development that sparked intense public scrutiny and family tension at the time. He has consistently defended the decision as part of his destiny and faith.
As both a prominent actor and pastor of the True Salvation Ministry, Edochie’s latest remarks have reignited conversations about cultural traditions, religious interpretation, and personal choice in marriage.
