Controversial singer Portable has opened up about his tough beginnings, revealing how he was labelled an “olodo” in his family yet has risen to become their provider while pursuing higher education.
In a recent episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, the Zazu crooner shared his journey from selling sachet water to pay secondary school fees to now balancing music fame with studies at Kwara Polytechnic, where he is pursuing Business Administration.
“I didn’t finish my education. When I was going to secondary school, I sold pure water to attend ODC. I didn’t see anybody to sponsor me cause the school fees was high,” he recalled.
Portable expressed pride in his transformation:
“I will soon finish school cause I’m currently a student of Kwara Polytechnic studying Business Administration. I was once called olodo in my family but now I am the one feeding them.”
He also voiced frustration over his siblings’ situation, noting that despite their education, they struggle with unemployment while he shoulders the family’s financial burden.
“My father sent my sisters to school, even my brothers, but I am in pain cause why has government not given them money or even a job cause I am the one feeding them now,” he lamented.
Portable’s story has resonated with many fans, who see it as a powerful tale of resilience and self-made success. From street hustling to chart-topping hits and now academic pursuit, the singer continues to defy expectations and silence doubters.
His candid revelations come at a time when he remains one of Nigeria’s most talked-about entertainers, often making headlines for both his music and outspoken lifestyle.
