The Nigerian gospel film industry is reeling from yet another painful blow as Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, the talented actor who portrayed Flora’s husband in the popular Mount Zion series Abattoir, has gone to be with the Lord. His passing at the age of 38 on June 10, 2026, has deepened the grief already hanging over the beloved Christian movie franchise.

Oyeyemi, fondly known as Omooba, was a proud Bowen University alumnus and a dedicated drama minister whose performances touched countless lives through faith-based storytelling. He featured prominently in several Mount Zion Faith Ministries productions, including Fiwajomi, Seyifunmi, Olukoya, and Finding Grace. Fans especially remember his heartfelt portrayal of Kayode, Flora’s husband, in the Abattoir series, where his chemistry with the late actress Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe brought powerful moments of love, faith, and family struggles to the screen.

The Bowen University Alumni Association broke the news in a heartfelt Instagram announcement, stating:

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing and burial of one of our esteemed alumni, Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, Gomobzzzz, a proud member of the Viable Set and BBSF Drama Unit, who recently went to be with the Lord.”

The association called on alumni and well-wishers to rally around the family:

“We humbly request that all alumni remember the family he left behind in their prayers, asking God to grant them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.”

They also urged those in Ibadan and environs to attend the burial, adding, “Our prayer is that the Almighty God will console his family and loved ones, and grant Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi eternal rest. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Burial arrangements have been confirmed:

A Service of Songs will hold on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 5:00pm at New Covenant Church, Impa Estate, Palace Bus Stop, Akala Road, Akobo, Ibadan. The interment follows on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 11:00am at the Garden of Saints Cemetery, opposite Anglican Primary School, beside Sankore College, Olorunda Abaa, Akobo, Ibadan. Mourners are requested to dress in white.

This latest loss has renewed sorrow over the Abattoir cast. In February 2025, Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe, who played the role of Flora (Oyeyemi’s on-screen wife), passed away from complications following a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 26, 2024. The crash also claimed the life of one of her two-year-old twin daughters. Earlier, in November 2024, another cast member, Evangelist Moses Korede Are (popularly known as Baba Gbenro), died after a prolonged battle with liver disease.

The successive deaths of key Abattoir actors have left the Mount Zion family and gospel movie lovers in deep mourning, highlighting the fragility of life even among those spreading messages of hope and faith through drama.

Oyeyemi’s warm personality and commitment to using his talent for evangelism endeared him to many. Colleagues and fans describe him as a vibrant minister whose work continues to impact lives long after his scenes faded from the screen. Tributes have poured in across social media, with many celebrating his legacy while praying for comfort for his family.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
