Rapper Ice Prince has fired back at critics who slammed him for performing at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention, revealing the deeply personal reason behind his appearance at the event.

The “Oleku” hitmaker faced heavy backlash online for entertaining delegates at the 2026 APC national convention amid widespread complaints about insecurity and economic hardship under the ruling party. Many accused him and fellow performers of prioritizing money over accountability.

In a candid response on the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince explained that the invitation was not a random political gig but a family affair.

“Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle.”

The Jos-born artiste clarified that his decision stemmed purely from his relationship with APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda. He stressed that the performance was a personal commitment rather than an endorsement of broader political issues.

The revelation has sparked fresh debates, with some fans accepting his explanation while others maintain that celebrities should use their platforms to demand better governance instead of performing at partisan events.

Ice Prince’s appearance at the convention alongside other artistes like Duncan Mighty and Peruzzi had earlier drawn mixed reactions, highlighting the thin line entertainers often walk between career opportunities and public perception in Nigeria.
