The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the sudden death of veteran actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi. The seasoned thespian passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Abuja. The sad news was confirmed on Monday, April 27, by the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu.

“Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. He slept and did not wake up. His body is in the morgue in Abuja, where the sad incident happened.”

The actor’s wife also confirmed the tragic development.

Solomon Akiyesi, a native of Akoko-Edo in Edo State, was a respected figure in Nollywood with a career that spanned over two decades. He joined the industry in the late 1990s and went on to feature in more than 100 productions, building a reputation as a versatile and dependable character actor.

Some of his notable film credits include Marry Who You Love, Deadly Affair, Desperate Ladies, and Bridge of Contract. He was known for delivering strong supporting performances that often added depth and authenticity to every project he joined.

Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues and fans across the industry as news of his passing spreads. Many have described him as a humble and dedicated professional who contributed quietly but significantly to the growth of Nigerian cinema.
