Nollywood veteran Kate Henshaw has issued a strong reminder to partygoers and social media users about the importance of respecting invitations and personal boundaries at events. In a candid Instagram video, the actress addressed the growing habit of gatecrashing, calling it rude and inconsiderate to hosts who invest time and resources into their gatherings.
Henshaw did not mince words as she spoke directly to those who turn up uninvited and to others who stretch a single-person invite to include friends and family without first clearing it with the organiser. She questioned the thinking behind such actions and urged people to value their own dignity instead.
“I want to talk about something rampant, has been rampant, and is still rampant. I just want to ask those of you who show up uninvited at events and parties, what’s your purpose? What do you aim to achieve? Then, those of you who receive a card that admits only one person and invite all your village people, don’t check with the host; you pack your people and come. What are you doing there? Why don’t you respect yourself and stay away? It’s rude, you’re a gate crasher.”
The actress wrapped up her message with a simple but firm piece of advice that many fans have already echoed online.
“Respect yourself enough to stay away from places you aren’t invited to.”
The video has drawn attention because gatecrashing remains a frequent topic in Nigerian social circles, especially at weddings, birthdays, and celebrity parties where guest lists are carefully managed. Henshaw’s comments highlight how such behaviour can strain relationships, create logistical headaches for planners, and sometimes lead to unnecessary tension at otherwise joyful occasions.
Social events remain a big part of culture in Nigeria and Henshaw’s words serve as a timely nudge for everyone to think twice before showing up where they have not been asked to appear.
