“Funke Akindele Scares Me!” — Jide Kosoko Reveals

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has admitted that calls from filmmaker Funke Akindele for acting jobs leave him uneasy because of the intense standards she brings to set.

The 72-year-old shared the experience during an interview on the African A-List podcast. He described Akindele as a perfectionist who will not settle until every detail is right.

“Whenever Funke calls me for a job, I am always scared; you can shoot a scene 15 times,” Kosoko said.

He explained that her process does not stop at the end of a shooting day. She can return the next morning intending to move to a new scene, only to order a full reshoot of work already completed.

“She may come the following day thinking of shooting another scene, but then she will say ‘We have to shoot those scenes again because of the plates they brought,’” he recounted.

Kosoko has worked with Akindele on her Jenifa productions and knows the rhythm of her sets firsthand. He made clear that the demand is not something he is exaggerating and invited anyone who doubts him to speak with other actors who have shared those sets. At the same time, he praised the drive behind the method.

“Funke is very hardworking; even if you are a man, you can’t match her energy,” he said.

He also addressed the ongoing conversation about dance sequences in her films. Kosoko said he stays quiet when the topic comes up because he understands how central movement is to her style, and the films that have included it have performed strongly at the box office.

The comments have drawn supportive reactions online, with many viewers calling Akindele a perfectionist who refuses to slack on her work. Akindele herself responded to a clip of the remarks with laughing emojis.
