“I’m Sorry!” — Desola Afod Backtracks After Industry Backlash

Desola Afod has issued a public apology and retracted her earlier generalisation about people in the theatre industry.

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the wife of actor Kunle Afod began by thanking Nollywood actor Afeez Owo and said she was sorry for disappointing him.

“Can’t thank you enough, Baba Gani (Afeez Owo). I truly appreciate you, sir, and I sincerely apologise for disappointing you with my words,” she wrote.

She then walked back the comments that had drawn fire.

“Whatever statement I made generally concerning ‘Àwọn Omo Tíátíà’, I hereby retract and take it back. I didn’t mean to generalise or refer to everyone in the industry. The few people who did me dirty know themselves. In all, it’s gone! We move. I AM SORRY.”

Desola closed by reaffirming her name in what some fans are calling a reply to Wumi Toriola.

“One thing remains unchanged: MY NAME IS STILL DESOLA AFOD, CELEB WIFE, TILL THE END OF TIME. LOVE AND LIGHT.”

Screenshots circulating with the post also showed a voice call between her and Owo, along with messages in which she confirmed she had posted the apology and he replied with thanks and prayers.

The retraction comes hours after Desola’s earlier video warning actors and filmmakers against what she described as disrespect.

Actress Wumi Toriola responded directly, calling the generalisation insulting and painful because it covered the body of work she earns from. She told Desola to name specific people if she had issues with them, referenced a past incident in which she had stayed quiet out of respect for Kunle Afod, and suggested Desola could bear her father’s name if the Afod name was becoming a problem.

Actress Bimbo Success also pushed back, saying practitioners had stayed quiet out of consideration for Kunle Afod.
