Socialite Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has told Nigerian men to stop treating every compliment as a bedroom invitation.
The instagram post they shared landed in the middle of a louder fight about DMs. BBNaija star Hazel Oyeze Onou, known as Whitemoney, spent the week calling out a male admirer who slid into his inbox, praised his looks and addressed him as “Papi.” Whitemoney said he is a straight man who loves women, warned the sender against another message, and later added that he is not homophobic. The clip still drew backlash from people who said he overreacted to a compliment. Cross Okonkwo backed him. Bobrisky, without naming Whitemoney in the story text, stepped into the conversation.
Bobrisky asked for a reset.
“Let’s normalize harmless DMs. Just because i message you or compliment you doesn’t mean I want to sleep with you. The thought alone is disgusting. Why must everything involving Nigerians always end in bed? Is that how some of you are wired?”
The second slide pushed the point further.
“I can appreciate your outfit, your haircut, or anything else about you without wanting you sexually. Some of us receive plenty of love from our siblings and genuinely know how to appreciate beautiful things without attaching sexual intentions to everything.”
The caption was sharper than the slides.
“Take note please, especially Nigeria men. And this thoughts are mostly from DL MEN.”
The argument is not new in his corner of the internet. Bobrisky has spent years posting old chats after public insults, including a 2020 admirer who later trolled him and a 2021 message that allegedly offered millions for sex. He has also complained that ignored DMs turn into public shade.
Replies split on cue. Some users agreed that a compliment is not a contract. Others said a slide into DMs is already a different temperature from a public comment.
