“It’s Her Life!” — Charly Boy Slams Critics over Daughter’s Same-Sex Engagement

Charles Oputa, the musician and activist known as Charly Boy, has publicly celebrated his daughter Adaeze’s engagement to a woman and shut down a critic who tried to police her past.

He posted a video from the ceremony on Instagram and asked his followers to bless the couple.

“My beautiful Princess and her Husband. Folks, wish dem well for me,” he wrote.

The caption used “Husband” for her female partner. Adaeze posted her own announcement the same day: “WE’RE ENGAGED!” with the hashtag #mrsandmrs.

She added:

“Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter, growth, and making beautiful memories together. I can’t wait for everything God has in store for us. Forever sounds even sweeter with you.”

The internet did not answer with one voice. In Nigeria, same-sex unions carry heavy social and legal stigma, and many commenters rejected the celebration outright. A smaller group backed the family or stayed out of it. One remark under Charly Boy’s post went after Adaeze’s history with men.

“Has she tasted D before? I swear she will reserve back.”

Area Fada did not scroll past it.

“She has 6 children, and one made me a great-grandfather. It’s her life.”

The reply framed Adaeze as a grown mother, not a child whose choices needed a public hearing.

That stance fits the brand he has sold for decades: loud, contrary and unwilling to sand down his family for comfort. He has long spoken in public about his children and about social issues that other stars leave alone. The engagement posts now sit in that same lane.
