Yoruba Nollywood actress Sikiratu Sindodo has opened up on a life-threatening illness that left her fighting for survival after doctors gave her only a 50/50 chance. Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV, the actress said the ordeal began like ordinary malaria and typhoid before it spun out of control.
She recalled being moved from one general hospital to another as the sickness dragged on.
“I was sick like someone who had malaria. Malaria/typhoid, that was it, and that was how it started gradually. From one General Hospital to another. I can’t remember how long it lasted. I think it lasted for months because I was in a coma and was given a 50/50 chance. My mum was even told to go home.”
Those words land hard. A mother was asked to leave the hospital while her daughter lay unconscious, with doctors unsure she would wake up. Sindodo said she does not want to get emotional about the trial, but she still credits divine help for bringing her through.
“God answered a lot of prayers in my life. God has been faithful because I don’t want to be emotional.”
The revelation has drawn emotional responses from fans and colleagues who are relieved she lived to tell the story. In the same interview she briefly addressed old noise about her and MC Oluomo, saying the public talk around them became too loud.
“The noise was too much. I didn’t know the noise would be that much.”
Sindodo, also known as Tayo Odueke, has marked recent birthdays by thanking God for life. She turned 49 in February and has previously spoken about gratitude for simply being alive after hard seasons. Her latest account puts the focus back on survival, not gossip.
She did not give a final medical label for the illness beyond how it started and how close it came to ending her life. What remains clear is the memory of months of hospitals, a coma, a 50/50 warning, and a mother sent home while her child hung between life and death.
