Nollywood heavyweights have thrown their weight behind veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, after his family revealed he is battling stage-four cancer and can no longer receive chemotherapy at his current hospital.
The 66-year-old star, whose career spans more than four decades and over 300 films, is at the centre of an industry-wide appeal for medical direction rather than financial donations. His daughters recently disclosed that the cancer, which affects his abdomen, was fully identified about three weeks ago and that treatment options have become limited. They also noted that Senator Solomon Adeola has been assisting with medical bills and that the actor is currently unfit to travel abroad.

Leading the celebrity charge, actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo posted a strong call on X.
“Please let’s rally around our beloved Sir Taiwo Hassan, who is currently facing a serious health challenge battling cancer,” he wrote.
He stressed that the family is not seeking money.
“As shared by his family, they are NOT looking for money or financial support. What they urgently need is medical direction. If you know someone who knows someone in the oncology space, or a medical avenue that can assist please help reach out to his family immediately.”
Muyiwa Ademola followed with an emotional post:
“With sadness, trembling hands and HOPE I repost this! Uncle Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer… Please and please, we need who is sure! We can’t gamble at this stage! We need your help! It’s not about money but means to get him treated!”
Actress Bimbo Oshin also appealed for specialised support.
“Our Dearest Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is currently battling stage 4 cancer, and his family is urgently looking for the right medical help and treatment options,” she stated, urging anyone with oncology connections in Nigeria or abroad to reach out.
Toyin Abraham shared the family’s videos and asked fans and colleagues to contact the daughters or herself if they could offer useful medical leads.
Amid the growing campaign, a medical professional has offered important context on the situation. Doctor Olusina Ajidahun, known online as The Bearded Dr Sina, clarified that claims of hospitals “refusing” treatment can be misunderstood when a patient reaches stage four.
He explained that once chemotherapy and other available therapies have been explored, care often shifts to palliative care.
“When patients have stage 4 cancer and chemo and/or other therapies have been explored. There is a form of care called PALLIATIVE CARE… which is end-of-life care and care for terminal diseases because at the point of the disease you cannot treat it, but you can manage associated symptoms and give the person a good quality of life before death,” Ajidahun said.
The doctor warned that framing the issue as deliberate refusal risks creating hostility toward healthcare workers. He also cautioned the public against recommending unproven herbal remedies, noting that no herbs can treat stage-four cancer and such concoctions often cause further organ damage.
Ajidahun, who is not involved in Ogogo’s care, expressed sympathy for the family and encouraged continued collaboration with the medical team.
As more colleagues and well-wishers respond to the call for credible medical recommendations, the industry continues to stand with one of its own in this difficult fight.
