Media personality and influencer Simi Sanya has captured widespread attention after candidly discussing her limited cooking skills in marriage and her extravagant views on wedding budgets during a revealing interview.
Simi made it clear that she was transparent about her domestic abilities right from the talking stage to prevent future conflicts.
“You see me the way I am. You know that I don’t know how to cook. Now I’m in a relationship; you will now say let me go and be cooking for you in your house every weekend… why? Was that the plan? Didn’t I tell you before?” she stated firmly.
She proudly shared how her husband has fully accepted her reality without complaints:
“In my marriage, I only know how to cook spaghetti, yam and egg, and bread and tea, and the boy has known, and he has not fought me since the day we got married. He has been eating the spaghetti with all goodness in his heart.”
Simi emphasised the importance of early conversations about expectations in relationships. She believes discussing cooking and other domestic responsibilities before marriage helps couples avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary pressure later.
Switching to wedding planning, Simi dismissed ₦80 million as “small” for a proper 300-guest celebration. When asked directly if the amount was too little, she replied without hesitation:
“It’s small o.”
She broke down the high costs involved, particularly venue expenses in Lagos.
“If you are choosing to do your wedding on the island, just start budgeting ₦10 million and above for hall.”
Simi revealed that she and her husband strategically held their traditional wedding on the Island and the white wedding on the mainland to manage costs, noting that decoration remains expensive regardless of location.
On catering, Simi refused to cut corners:
“Me, I didn’t do that. I wanted people to eat, be filled and be merry.”
She also mentioned that décor alone can cost around ₦5 million, depending on the couple’s vision.
When questioned about what she would have done if her husband had not supported her dream wedding, Simi smiled and gave a heartfelt response:
“He loves me, so he wants my dream wedding. Anything that makes me happy.”
