Nollywood has lost another iconic talent as veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving fans and colleagues in deep mourning.
The sad news was confirmed by fellow actor Kunle Afod, who paid a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on Tuesday.
“We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado,” Afod wrote.
He celebrated the late actor’s contributions:
“Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten. Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace.”
Elegbeje Ado built a remarkable career spanning over two decades in the Yoruba movie industry. He was renowned for portraying traditional rulers, community elders, and other culturally significant characters, earning widespread love and recognition. His stage name “Elegbeje Ado” became synonymous with his most celebrated roles.
Beyond acting, the veteran was also a dedicated Christian minister who balanced his film work with pastoral duties throughout his life.
