Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale, mother of singer Mayorkun, has opened up about her firm views on marriage, declaring that she would never tolerate domestic violence but is committed to staying through minor misunderstandings.
In a candid interview on the Talk To B podcast hosted by Biola Adebayo, the actress shared her personal philosophy on marital endurance.
“Marriage has never been a do or die thing for me. I won’t stay if he beats me, but if there’s no violence involved and it’s just little misunderstanding, that one is normal in marriages — I don’t have any reason to leave.”
Toyin Adewale emphasized that she entered marriage with strong determination to make it work.
“I got married with determination of not leaving my marriage as long as there’s no violence.”
The actress revealed that she got married in January 1993 and welcomed her son Mayorkun (Mayowa) in March 1993, just two months later.
While reflecting on family, she also recalled returning from America after nine years and feeling immense pride seeing her son’s music journey. She was present when Davido called Mayorkun to record the hit song “Eleko” the following day.
“The first time I came back from America after nine years… I cried and praised God because they really made me proud.”
Toyin Adewale also spoke briefly about her late father’s disciplined nature as the last born of his family. He had four wives, with each bearing one child, and meticulously prepared his burial arrangements in advance to avoid stressing his children.
