How I Became Hated in My Family — Phyna

Former Big Brother Naija Level Up winner Phyna has emotionally recounted how her family turned against her the moment she began refusing their constant financial requests, despite previously sharing her ₦100 million prize money freely.

The reality star opened up during a live session, revealing the pressure and lack of appreciation she faced after her 2022 victory. She admitted she initially thought she was doing the right thing by helping everyone.

“I thought I was helping my family sort out things. I thought I was normal. No money they call, and I continued to share it like a fool.”

According to her, none of the adults around her advised her to invest or save.

“All of them, all the adults, nobody said, ‘Ah, Phyna come now. How much is that in your hand? Come and do one small thing.’ Nobody was interested in me investing.”

She listed numerous demands, including one relative asking for ₦1 million after her husband’s death and others requesting money for boreholes.

“I know how many boreholes I did for them.”

Phyna explained that the real trouble started when she began setting boundaries.

“The moment I started saying no like this, I became a problem. That’s been the beginning of my problem.”

She also recalled a specific disagreement with her father over expensive roofing materials.

The actress noted that many relatives never believed in her success before fame.

“They used to say I wouldn’t reach the river before I fetched water—that I’d become pregnant and amount to nothing good.”

Phyna’s candid revelation has resonated with many Nigerians who have experienced similar family dynamics, where one successful person becomes the family’s ATM until they start refusing requests. Her story highlights the challenges of sudden wealth, family entitlement, and the importance of financial boundaries.
