Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy has declared Johnny Drille as the most complete musician in the current Nigerian music scene, praising his rare ability to excel across songwriting, production, singing, and live performance.
Speaking on the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy lauded Drille’s all-round talent.
“If you look at the Nigerian music industry right now, there is nobody like Johnny Drille. He is in a world of his own. He is like the best musician – the complete musician that I know.”
He emphasised Drille’s versatility:
“He is versatile. He mixes, writes, and sings. He does everything. He is also an amazing performer, the way he sounds in the studio is the same way he sounds in live shows.”
Don Jazzy also reflected on the golden era of Afrobeats, crediting collaborative living for producing some of the industry’s biggest hits. He recalled how close proximity and in-house studios during the Mo’Hits days sparked spontaneous creativity, citing examples like D’Banj’s “Olorun Maje” and Dr Sid’s “You Bad, You Want It.”
The music executive argued that today’s more fragmented creative process has reduced that magic and urged younger artists to embrace closer collaboration.
Johnny Drille, signed to Mavin Records, is widely respected for his soulful voice, deep songwriting, and consistent live delivery. Don Jazzy’s high praise further cements his reputation as one of the most technically gifted artists of his generation.
