Roy De Nani: “Nollywood Abandoned Me at My Lowest!”

Veteran Nollywood actor Roy De Nani has opened up about his painful 13-year exile from the Nigerian movie industry, claiming he was deliberately blacklisted after someone powerful ordered producers to stop casting him.

In an emotional interview on the Where Is The Lie podcast, Roy De Nani recounted how his career was abruptly halted.

“The man gave orders to all Nollywood movie producers to stop giving me roles. Nollywood shut me out for 13 years.”

He revealed that even a production he was already working on was abruptly cancelled.

“Even the one I was already working on, the producer came in and shut the whole thing down.”

The actor shared deep personal losses during his years of exclusion.

“My blood brother died and not a single actor or actress showed up. I lost my son and daughter to sickle cell because there was no money to pay for blood transfusion.”

De Nani further expressed disappointment at the silence from his colleagues, noting that many stayed quiet because they had not been personally affected. He emphasised that he still has stories to tell and scripts to offer.

“I write scripts and I have a story. I don’t want to be selfish… but I appreciate any form of help and support to reestablish me.”

His revelation has sparked sympathy and conversations about blacklisting, industry politics, and the lack of support systems for veteran actors in Nollywood. Many fans and observers are now calling for his return to the screen and greater solidarity within the industry.
