Nigerian singer, actor, and politician Banky W has shared the inspiring love story of how his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, took the bold step of asking him to be her husband after an initial period of friend-zoning and rejection.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Teju Babyface Show, Banky W opened up about the early challenges in their relationship. He admitted that he was convinced Adesua was “the one” but faced repeated setbacks when trying to pursue her romantically.
After several failed attempts, Banky W decided to step back emotionally. Describing the moment of frustration, he said he was “not talking to her again.” He even reflected on past heartbreaks, wondering if it was payback:
“Maybe because of all the hearts I’ve broken, God has now sent somebody to break my heart.”

“I went to God and said, ‘I feel like this is my wife but she just can’t see it. If you want us together, go and tell her.’”
He made a personal vow not to bring up the topic again unless Adesua initiated it herself. The turning point came during a phone conversation when Adesua surprised him with a direct statement. According to Banky W, she said:
“Banky, you know you’re my husband, right?”
His calm response highlighted his long-held conviction and faith:
“I’ve known for a year and a half. I’ve just been waiting for you to catch up.”
Banky W attributed his composure to spiritual growth.
“The more you spend time with God and build faith, the more you just know.”
The couple eventually got married in 2017 in a star-studded ceremony and now share two children together. Their union is often celebrated in entertainment circles as one built on friendship, faith, and mutual respect.
