Social media activist VeryDarkMan has issued a scathing assessment of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, pointing to the deaths of three senior army officers as proof that the current administration lacks answers to the crisis. In a strongly worded post, the outspoken critic highlighted the repeated loss of high-ranking military personnel to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.

VeryDarkMan listed the fallen generals in sequence. In 2021, Brigadier General DK Zirkushu was killed in an ambush while rushing to reinforce troops under attack. In November 2025, Brigadier General Muhammad Uba was ambushed after his location was reportedly exposed, leading to his capture and execution by ISWAP fighters. Then, on April 9, 2026, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah died alongside at least 17 others when terrorists overran their camp in Benisheikh, completely destroying the facility.

“Between 2021 to 2026, we have lost three strong brigadier generals to insecurity. When does it stop?”

He painted a grim picture of the situation on the ground, noting abandoned communities across the country and claiming that terrorists now possess superior numbers and weaponry compared to Nigerian forces.

The activist dismissed any notion that the violence stems from religious conflict. Instead, he blamed political failures and what he described as a misguided policy of rehabilitating captured terrorists rather than neutralising them.

“The terrorists have more men and weapons than our armed forces. At the end of the day, it boils down to politics. The question is why do we have this problem? This is not a religious war. Instead of the Nigerian army to kill the captured criminals, they ‘rehabilitate’ them.”

VeryDarkMan saved his sharpest criticism for President Bola Tinubu, arguing that insecurity has escalated since the president took office in 2023.

“Since Tinubu came into power, insecurity has been worse. It has claimed the lives of more people. He shouldn’t be campaigning for a second term because he doesn’t have any solutions.”

The post has triggered widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians echoing the activist’s frustration over the persistent threat in the northeast and other parts of the country. Supporters praised him for refusing to sugar-coat the reality, while others called for better support for the military.

Military sources have confirmed the recent attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, though official statements initially focused on repelling the assault before acknowledging casualties. The deaths of the three generals represent rare high-profile losses in the long-running counter-insurgency campaign, underscoring the scale of the challenge facing Nigeria’s armed forces.

VeryDarkMan’s message resonates with families living in fear and with serving personnel who feel the weight of an unequal fight. For now, the activist has once again positioned himself as a voice demanding accountability, insisting that cosmetic measures will not end the bloodshed.

As the country grapples with these fresh losses, the question VeryDarkMan posed hangs heavy: when does it stop? Nigerians are watching closely to see whether the government will treat the killings as a turning point or another statistic in a seemingly endless cycle of violence.
