Nollywood actress and scriptwriter Miriam Ogbonna has stirred conversations online after she publicly praised prostitutes and argued that their work is far from easy. The star shared her thoughts in a thread on X (formerly Twitter), drawing attention to the physical and emotional demands of sex work.
In her opening post, Ogbonna wrote,
“See, I hail prostitutes. That work is NOT easy. Fvcking people everyday? The soreness? The pains down there? Ahhhhhh… They need to be paid more o and the ones that are charging HEAVY, they deserve it.”
She followed up by stressing that prostitution will not disappear no matter how much society preaches against it.
“No matter how much you preach against prostitution, it’s never going to stop. If there’s no demand by you men, these girls won’t have customers. So you might as well pay them well while they are at it because the job is truly not an easy one.”
Ogbonna pointed out that the only way the trade could end is if demand dries up.
“If you people hate the idea of prostitution so much, stop patronizing them and they will close shop.”
She also responded to critics in the thread, noting that the reality of ongoing demand keeps the industry alive and that she speaks against it often but chooses to face facts.
Ogbonna’s statements come from a place of acknowledging the hardships faced by women in the profession, including health risks and daily physical strain, without glamorising the choice itself.
The thread quickly gained traction, with many users agreeing the job carries real dangers and discomfort, while others pushed back, arguing that personal responsibility matters more than demand alone.
Fans and followers continue to weigh in, turning the conversation into a wider debate on sex work, economics and personal choices in Nigeria today.
