Nigerian Afrobeats singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has ignited intense debate online after calling for extreme punishment for rapists.
Her comments come amid growing public concern over rising reports of sexual assault across the country in recent weeks.
Reacting on Tuesday night via X, the singer expressed outrage and frustration, urging authorities and citizens to take stronger action.
“I’m sickkk of this. Stop raping women. They need to castrate rapists and burn them.”
The statement quickly sparked controversy, with some people supporting her anger while others argued that severe punishment should also apply to false rape accusers.
But Simi insisted her focus remains on protecting victims of sexual violence. She dismissed attempts to silence discussions about assault because of false accusations.
According to the singer, sexual assault is far more widespread than many admit.
“How many of your friends have actually assaulted women as vibes?? Women are terrified to go out. Women in their homes are not safe either. Ask your sisters. Ask your female friends and your girlfriends. Ask your wives. We’re not all crazy. Stop raping women.”
She also urged men to hold one another accountable, stressing that silence and tolerance create an environment where offenders feel protected.
Her remarks have since fueled a wider national conversation about justice, safety, and accountability, with social media sharply divided over both her message and her proposed punishment.
