Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has revealed that he and late South African rapper AKA made peace before the rapper’s tragic death.
The two African music stars had a public fallout in 2019 during a tense period marked by online exchanges and political tension between Nigerians and South Africans. At the time, Burna Boy had issued strong warnings online, while AKA also faced backlash over comments linked to xenophobia debates.
However, years later, Burna Boy says the story didn’t end with hate.
Marking AKA’s posthumous birthday, Burna Boy shared an emotional message on Instagram, revealing that they had quietly settled their differences away from the public eye.
He wrote:
“Happy birthday Supa Mega. We fell out over bullsh*t even though we squashed it over Twitter DMs nobody knew about, we never got the chance to really link up and do what we were supposed to do. I will regret that until I see you again. Until then, R.I.P Mega.”
His message surprised many fans who believed the tension between both stars was never resolved.

Burna Boy’s words suggest there were plans for collaboration and reconciliation that never materialised before AKA’s untimely death.
AKA, fondly called “Supa Mega,” was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban, South Africa, on February 10, 2023, in a killing that shocked the African music industry. The case remains one of the most talked-about tragedies in recent African hip-hop history, with legal proceedings still ongoing.
The revelation from Burna Boy now adds a new emotional layer to their story, one of regret, closure, and missed opportunities between two of Africa’s biggest music stars.
Fans across Nigeria and South Africa have since reacted to the message, describing it as a sign that healing and unity are still possible beyond past conflicts.
