Nollywood star Mercy Johnson Okojie has dropped all charges against TikToker Eedie Bliss, leading to the content creator’s release from detention after days of intense public backlash.
Eedie Bliss regained her freedom on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after the actress formally withdrew the alleged defamation case against her. The decision came hours after social media erupted with criticism, with many Nigerians insisting that defamation is a civil matter and not a criminal offence.
The situation gained more attention after popular social media critic VeryDarkMan publicly called out Mercy Johnson, accusing her of oppression and misuse of police power. He also issued an ultimatum demanding the TikToker’s immediate release.
A few hours later, the activist confirmed that Eedie Bliss had been freed.
Announcing the development on Instagram, VeryDarkMan wrote:
“@MercyJohnsonOkojie, thank you very much, my GREATEST OF ALL TIME, for dropping the case. Moving on, I am buying all defamation cases against Mercy Johnson and her family. The bullying is too much. You all should leave her family alone.”
Eedie Bliss had been arrested over a TikTok video she shared in December 2025, where she made allegations involving Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Henry Okojie.
In the now-viral clip, the TikToker alleged that Prince Okojie bought a house for a pregnant mistress. She also claimed, while citing gossip blog Cutie Juls as her source, that Mercy Johnson allegedly connived with the woman’s house help to cause a miscarriage.
The arrest sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for restraint and urging celebrities to avoid using law enforcement to silence critics.
With the charges now dropped and Eedie Bliss released, the controversy appears to have cooled, though the debate around celebrity power, defamation, and online speech continues to trend across social media.
