Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before an Ogun State High Court in Onipanu, following his recent arrest over multiple allegations, including assault and felony.
The street-hop singer, whose arrest sparked widespread reactions online, appeared visibly emotional in court as he faced charges bordering on assault, felony occasioning harm, and resisting arrest.
During the court proceedings, Portable reportedly broke down in tears, drawing attention from those present in the courtroom. Videos circulating on social media earlier had shown the singer in handcuffs at a police station, crying and claiming that his mother was sick.
In the latest development, the court heard that Portable allegedly attacked his actress babymama, Ashabi, and also assaulted a female police inspector, identified as Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
He was further accused of obstructing police work and attacking individuals at his Odogwu bar on New Year’s Day.
Although Ashabi, who reportedly initiated the complaint that led to his arrest, was absent in court, her siblings were present and listed as witnesses in the case.
Portable’s legal counsel applied for bail, but the presiding judge declined, stating that the assaulted police officer was not present in court.
According to the judge, the court must hear directly from the officer before making a decision on the bail application. As a result, Portable was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned till January 19, when his bail request will be reconsidered.
The singer’s arraignment follows weeks of public drama between him and Ashabi.
On New Year’s Day, both parties exchanged accusations online. Ashabi had earlier accused Portable of physical assault, while the singer countered by alleging that she and her family attacked his household.
Portable also claimed that his pregnant wife was beaten and that weapons were pointed at his children, allegations Ashabi has strongly denied.
Speaking previously, Ashabi alleged that Portable pushed and slapped her, brought out an axe, seized their phones, and assaulted her siblings, forcing her to seek safety elsewhere.
A day before his arrest, Portable had publicly lashed out at Ashabi for taking the matter to court, insisting that she was not his legal wife and accusing her of trying to ruin his marriage to Bewaji, whom he described as his only wife.
With the court adjourned and Portable remanded, all eyes are now on January 19, when the judge is expected to rule on his bail application and possibly hear from the assaulted police officer.
The case continues to generate intense reactions online, adding another chapter to the singer’s long list of legal and personal controversies.
