Rema, Burna Boy Win Big at AFRIMA

Nigerian music stars Rema, Burna Boy, and Yemi Alade were the biggest winners on Sunday night as the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA 2026) lit up Lagos in a grand celebration of African sound and culture.

The star-studded event, held at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, saw Nigeria dominate major categories, with Rema emerging as the night’s biggest winner.

The 24-year-old global sensation stunned the audience as he clinched three major awards, including the most prestigious honours of the night.

Rema won Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB/Soul for Calm Down

In the highly competitive categories, Rema defeated heavyweight nominees such as Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Asake.

While receiving his awards, the Calm Down crooner expressed gratitude to his fans and the organisers, saying their support meant everything to him.

Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy took home Album of the Year for his project No Sign of Weakness, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s biggest exports.

Award-winning singer Yemi Alade won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for her song You Are from the animated series Iyanu.

Street-pop sensation Shallipopi had a remarkable night as his hit song Laho won Song of the Year. He also picked up Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy.

Indigenous rap star Phyno won Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, while fast-rising singer Chella emerged African Fans’ Favourite.

Breakout singer Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artiste of the Year, beating strong contenders including Joshua Baraka, Kunmie, Fola, King Luca, and Massamba Amadeus.

Tanzanian star Jux won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, adding to the night’s continental diversity.

AFRIMA 2026 once again showcased Africa’s rich musical talents and cultural heritage. Lagos hosted the awards for the third time, following previous editions in Ghana and Senegal.

The ceremony featured thrilling performances from top African artistes, reaffirming AFRIMA’s mission to unite the continent through music.
