Actor Jamiu Azeez Addresses Conversion Rumours

Nollywood actor Jamiu Azeez has broken his silence after social media erupted with claims that he had converted to Christianity following his appearance at a White Garment Church during New Year crossover service.

The Muslim actor trended online after a video surfaced showing him dressed in a white robe and holding a candle during the service, a sight that immediately sparked intense reactions. While many Christians welcomed him warmly and congratulated him on what they assumed was a conversion, others questioned his faith and personal choices.

Reacting to the controversy, Jamiu took to his Instagram page to address the growing assumptions and backlash, describing the reaction as excessive and deeply intrusive.

“It’s only in Nigeria that people are so bothered about another person’s life,” the actor wrote. “Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life.”

Jamiu revealed that the comments he had encountered across blogs and social media platforms, particularly Facebook, were overwhelming, with some critics going as far as sending him direct messages to attack him over the issue.

“I posted myself in a White Garment on crossover night and the comments I’ve been reading are crãzy. Some even came to my DM to drag me. Like bro, you will not be accountable for my life,” he said.

The actor made it clear that he owes no one an explanation about his spiritual journey and stressed that he had never publicly announced any religious conversion.

“I can choose to practice any religion and that should not be anyone’s problem. I never even come out to say I have converted oo,” he added.

In a sarcastic but pointed conclusion, Jamiu expressed frustration at the level of scrutiny he has faced.

“Una wan kpai me. No worry, I go wear Babalawo cloth tomorrow.”
