21-year-old dies at Lagos birthday party after mixing hard drugs

The Lagos State Police Command says that 21-year-old Michael Arigbabuwo passed away at a birthday celebration while allegedly combining hard drugs for maximum effect.

On Saturday, Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin posted this to Twitter.

Hundeyin said that the incident happened on Friday in the Lagos neighborhood of Ikorodu and that three of his friends who were also at the party had been detained.

A distress call reporting that a group of “Yahoo” boys had brought a corpse to the Igbogbo neighborhood of Ikorodu was received at around 7.30 p.m. on Friday, according to the information given to the police in Ikorodu.

“Based on the information, teams of detectives visited and photographed the scene. Three young men of ages 23 and 24 were arrested.

“The suspects claimed that the deceased allegedly smoked loud and drank codeine at a birthday party of one of their friends held at Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.

“The suspects further claimed that the deceased began gasping for breath. He was rushed to the hospital but died,” he said.

According to the spokesman, the body was taken away and deposited at the General Hospital in Ikorodu for an autopsy.

Hundeyin cautioned young people against using drugs, emphasizing the dire consequences for their lives.

“Thinking of doing drugs? Have a rethink as nothing fruitful emanates from it.

“Investigation into the case has commenced,” he said.
